Practice Reflection

Directions: Choose two topics that you would like to reflect on for the semester. Follow the same guidelines as the previous reflection, except this time you will turn completely inward. Each topic should be relatively fleshed out and should be focused.

Example: This semester has been helpful for me in many ways, but the aspect I have benefited from the most would be the in-class peer-reviews and one-on-ones with the professor. The peer-reviews allowed me to see what my classmates were doing, and also allowed me to see things about my writing that I would not have seen, otherwise. When discussing my paper with Ms. Taylor, I was able to get more specific feedback, and some insight into what she might mark me on if I did not make changes to my paper.

The reflection should be no more than 200 words. You can print it out and bring it in to class with you on the day of the final.

Due before class on July 30th.

  1. This semester in ENG 121 has taught me many skills that have improved my writing, but I believe that the thesis workshops and one-on-ones with the professor have benefitted me the most. Not only did I get insight from my peers about how to develop a great thesis, they gave me good ideas that I would use throughout the whole paper. I also liked when I brought in a rough draft for a one-on-one with the professor. I sometimes got stuck with my writing and she would give me good ideas on how to improve my paper. She also would help me make small changes that made a big difference in the final draft.

  2. 1. This class has helped me to develop my analysis skills by developing them more with each paper. Each paper helped me to develop my analysis skills. The feedback for each paper explained what one or more of the problems were with the analysis in the paper. With the feedback each papers analysis was better developed and it has helped my writing immensely.
    2. This class has helped me to accept other people’s criticism about my writings and to develop my ability to use that criticism to help build better papers. It has been helpful to see what other people think the faults in my writing are. Which has helped me consider how to use the criticism to improve my writings.

  3. This semester many things have broadened and help my ability to better my academic writing skills. These include the thesis workshop, and the synthesis prewriting. The thesis workshops helped me to actually write a thesis that actually fulfills the meaning of the paper that I am trying to write. The thesis workshop also helps because the other class mates tell their opinion of your thesis, and help you word it better, and also look at it from a different point of view, that you might not have thought of. The synthesis prewrite helped me to finally know were to start a paper, and exactly how to organize everything from evidence to analysis. Also how many of each to include in every paragraph. This process made it a little smoother when I went to write the actual paper.

  4. The thesis work shops really helped me form my thesis for ever paper we wrote this semester. Every time I would step in front of the class with my thesis I know by the end with the classes participation my thesis was strong concise and made sense while appealing to your audience. The Thesis work shop is a tool that should be apply in all classes that require papers.

The Rubric provided for every paper is an outline for success. The way the Rubric was broken down is effective when you apply each step to your paper.
If you use the Rubric you can pretty much get an idea of what your grade is or going tobe . If you don't know why you got the grade you received just check the rubric.

  5. This semester in ENG121 has been very helpful, but the two aspects that have been the most helpful has be learning about Ethos, Pathos, and Logos along with out in-class discussions. Learning about Ethos, Pathos, and Logos has provided me with a new method in reading and writing academic arguments. All of our in-class discussions have provided me with the ideas I've used in all of my papers.
